Kind of!

 

Hi, I'm Shanaz, I'm a homeschooling parent and a creative. In 2022 I decided to open my studio to teach creativity to homeschoolers because I believe in home education, minimizing screen time, and most importantly, I believe creativity is vital to development.
 

I developed a hands-on, in-person curriculum teaching creativity to children to give them a kickstart in creative thinking abilities, fine motor skills, and to give them some basic tools to verbalize and express what's already in their hearts and minds.

We don't do art, we make and create. And we talk about it. We use our brains, our hearts, our hands, and our speech to think up thoughts and figure out how to turn them into reality together. There are no pre-made, pre-cut, pre-designed art projects. Children are given good tools, inspiration, and some parameters to solve a creative problems, and I support and guide their creative choices. We learn history in between, and we take time to talk about and describe our work together.

From concept to completion, they do it all themselves. So while we do use the artistic process, creative class is much more than 'doing art'. Here are a few ways your child might benefit from creative class:

• positive interpersonal skills

• increasing focus and attention

• engaging in real life processes

I work hard on this curriculum, because I sincerely believe in it. I believe in planting tiny seeds, and I look at my classroom as a rich garden bed full of life and potential under the surface. DVS is located in the beautiful Deer Valley of Calgary, Alberta, in community of Diamond Cove, backing directly into Fish Creek Provincial Park and the Bow River. It's a fantastic opportunity for homeschoolers to plan active outdoor adventures before and after creative class. From field trips, picnics, bike rides, and river rafting, the area is rich in wildlife and trails, including the Bow River Pathway.
